Vi augnskoun ß nokkrum Shih Tzu hundum ■ann 5-6 j˙nÝ s.l. var stafest PRA Ý tveimur ■eirra.
Shih Tzu deild HRFI er fyrsti Shih Tzu Kl˙bbur Ý heimi til ■ess a viurkenna sj˙kdˇminn Ý tegundinni. SÝan um helgina h÷fum vi unni h÷rum h÷ndum a ■vÝ a fß ara fÚlaga Ý li me okkur um a lßta augnskoa tegundina hjß sÚr.
Helga er einnig a vinna a ■vÝ a fß Fin til a halda frŠslufyrirlestur Ý framhaldi af augnskouninni.
Stjˇrn deildarinnar hefur sett sig Ý samband vi Optigen Ý BandarÝkjunum varandi DNA prˇf fyrir tegundina. Mun stjˇrn reyna a stefna a ■vÝ a 15-20 blˇprufur veri sendar ■eim svo hŠgt veri a vinna stafest DNA prˇf fyrir tegundina. Ůa er nausynlegt a fß ■etta DNA prˇf svo unnt veri fyrir rŠktendur a halda ßfram sinni rŠktun, ÷rugg um a veri sÚ a rŠkta sj˙kdˇmnum ˙r stofninum. Compulsary eyetests were done last weekend on a few Shih Tzus, two were confirmed having PRA
The Icelandic Shih Tzu Club is the first Shih Tzu Club in the world to accept that this disease is in the breed. Since last weekend we have been working hard to try and get other clubs to work with us
and have compulsary eyetests in their country for the breed. With regards to what Fin Boserup Veterinary specialist in optical research the disease is spreading very fast in the breed around the world.
In connection with this it is important for us to know how the shih tzu breed stands in Iceland in co-operation with Vet. Dr. Helga Finnsdˇttir we intend to have an eyetest day especially for the Shih Tzu around the same time as our November Show. Helga is also going to ask Vet.Dr. Boserup to he hold a lecture about the disease after he has finished checking the extent of the disease in the breed, in Iceland.
The board has also been in contact with Optigen in the United states asking about DNA tests for our breed. In partnership with them we will try to collect 15-20 bloodsamples and send them to them enabling them to find a confirmed DNA test for the breed. It is absoloutly necessary to have this DNA test to enable breeders to continue with their lines in confidence that they are breeding the disease out of their breeding stock. You can read about the disease and how it is inherited on this website under > the breed > health
